Six Flags Great Escape adds eco-friendly mattress to Green Initiative

Queensbury, NY
June 23, 2009

As part of its newly announced green initiative, Six Flags, Inc., (OTC Bulletin Board: SIXFQ) the world’s largest regional theme park company, is partnering with one of America’s greenest mattress manufacturers.

Anatomic Global’s brand of eco-friendly memory foam bedding, Ecomfort Mattress, is now the official mattress of the flagship hotel property of Six Flags.

The Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Water Park, located across from The Great Escape Theme Park is the first hotel to offer the green mattress to guests.  Anatomic Global President, Jeff Scorziell, believes that other resort properties are waking up to the benefits of eco-bedding.

“Hotels and resorts are increasingly aware of what they can do to be kinder to the environment, evident by such efforts as laundering towels and changing linens upon request.  Now, many hotels are turning to green mattresses and finding that they deliver more comfort and innovation, as well,” said Scorziell.

In addition to bringing in 450 new mattresses to furnish the 200-suite hotel, The Six Flags Great Escape Lodge utilizes programmable thermostats to conserve energy and also provides eco-friendly amenities for bathrooms, eco-friendly laundry detergents and cleaners, and corn-based serve ware for en-suite kitchens.  The Lodge partners with local Earth’s Our Products in practicing a facility wide recycling program making it easy for guests to recycle bottles, cans and paper goods.  The Six Flags Great Escape Lodge & Indoor Water Park is also a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Green Power Partner, having earned its Green Energy certification by purchasing New York State Wind energy.

“We believe that protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility,” said Bob Chesterman, Six Flags VP of Park Strategy and Management.  “We’ve made a commitment to introduce everyday sustainability solutions within our family of parks and this eco-friendly product is another example of that commitment.”

Six Flags Great Escape Park President, Don McCoy stated, “The addition of the Ecomfort Mattress to the Six Flags Great Escape Lodge provides our guests with both quality and comfort while perfectly aligning with our company's new green initiative.”

Six Flags Great Escape Theme Park is also taking strides to reduce its carbon footprint.  This season, at least two of the park’s diesel vehicles are slated to be converted to operate on vegetable oil generated in the park’s kitchens.  A recycling program with beverage partner Coca-Cola has placed recycling bins in convenient locations for guests and team members.
